NITCO will be providing the Town of Chesterton with a network update by this April or May. Known as the Chesterton Fiber Optic Network (CFON), this new 15.5-mile network will offer high speed broadband service to businesses in the area. Two bundles of 144 fibers each will be installed along with two additional ducts for future use. The new infrastructure will be run throughout central Chesterton, making is easily accessible for businesses, schools, and other community institutions alike.
The installation is a joint endeavor between both public and private parties. The Town of Chesterton will maintain ownership of the infrastructure and provide backing through TIF funds, and NITCO will operate the network. The Town of Chesterton will also receive a share of the revenue generated by NITCO through CFON. Furthermore, the Network Operating Center (NOC) is located in Town Municipal offices, equipped with updated safety features specific to the technology.
Services provided through the new system will include everything from multi-gigabit internet access, to digital voice, to carrier hotel access. SIP and PRI service, web hosting, and Skitter TV will also be available.
This new infrastructure is one of the most impressive of its time. Through a contract with Spread Networks, the new high-speed CFON will tap into an existing network that stretches from Chicago to New York. This connection will allow CFON customers to access LIT Transport from Chicago.
The installation represents NITCO’s and the Town of Chesterton’s commitment to providing businesses with the tools they need to succeed. Keeping this in mind, NITCO is offering special sales for early purchases! These deals only apply to three-year contracts and interested parties must apply before the Ribbon Cutting (TBD).
