NICTD: Temporary Construction Related Train Schedule Takes Effect May 2nd

NICTD-logoThe South Shore is implementing a construction related train schedule on May 2, 2016 affecting several weekday trains. An earlier notice had this work starting on May 9. Please read the following bulletin for more information. We will issue a new timetable reflecting these changes.

  • Eastbound Train 203 substitute express bus ONLY from Millennium Station to Hegewisch, Hammond, East Chicago and Gary Metro Center (no service to Van Buren or Gary/Chicago Airport)
  • Eastbound Train 205 Annulled
  • Westbound Train 220 Annulled
  • Westbound Train 20 – Major schedule adjustment South Bend to Millennium Station departing approximately 65 minutes earlier. See reverse side of this notice for Train 20 temporary schedule or visit our website www.nictd.com.
  • Weekend and off-peak weekday service may experience delays.

From May 2 thru June 30, 2016 the South Shore is undertaking a major upgrade to railroad crossovers located between East Chicago and Clark Road, Portage/Ogden Dunes and Miller, and Clark Road and Gary Metro Center.

Crossovers enable trains to “crossover” from one track to another. Currently trains are required to travel at 15 mph when switching tracks. This upgrade will permit trains to travel at 40 mph improving safety and operational efficiency.

NICTD regrets any inconvenience while we make these improvements.
