Next United Way Community Conversation to be Held in La Porte, April 29, 2014

united-way-laporte-countyThe public is invited to attend the first of the La Porte series of five Community Conversation sessions hosted by United Way of LaPorte County on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:30 a.m. at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center, 444 Pine Lake Ave., in La Porte.

A full breakfast will be served at no charge at 7:30 a.m. but reservations are required. Breakfast will be followed by a guided discussion on “Aspirations, Challenges, and Change” that will end at 10:30 a.m.

Kris Pate, United Way of LaPorte County executive director, says about 120 people attended this same conversation held in Michigan City on April 2 at the Blue Chip. Each session in the five-part series will be held in both the cities of Michigan City and La Porte.

“It was exciting to see so many members of our community actively engaged in sharing their ideas about what they’d like our community to be and talking about challenges needing to be addressed,” Pate said. “You could really feel the positive energy in the room.”

United Way of LaPorte County wants to hear from a broad spectrum of the community during the series of community conversations to be held over the next year and a half. Results of the public meetings will be used to guide the United Way Board of Directors as the organization transforms to a focus on funding impact in areas of education, income, and health.

Pate said United Way wants to be a catalyst that can bring about more intensive change within the community. “We want to help build collaborations in order to accomplish what our community aspires for itself,” she said.

Those planning to attend the Community Conversation in La Porte on April 29 should make a reservation by Friday, April 25. Reservations can be made by email at info@unitedwaylpc.org or by calling the United Way office at 219-210-3534.
