Westchester Public Library has updated the Early Literacy Stations at both Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, and Hageman Library, 100 Francis Street, Porter. AfterSchool Edge Stations have also been set up at both libraries. A library card is not necessary to use the stations, but is encouraged so children may check out books to take home that will further enhance their education.
The Early Literacy Station is a dynamic all-in-one learning station for children ages 2-8. It requires no Internet connection, so it is safe and secure. The educational titles in each curricular area are carefully chosen based on a number of characteristics, including educational efficacy, age appropriateness, and overall breadth of academic experience. The titles span seven curricular areas, including Bailey’s Book House (early language), Diego’s Safari Rescue (learning activities), Know Your USA/Europe/World (Geography), and more.
There are two Early Literacy Stations in the Children’s Department at Thomas Library, one station in the Serials Department at Thomas Library, and one station at Hageman Library. All stations are available in both English and Spanish.
The AfterSchool Edge is the first complete digital learning solution that is specifically designed for out-of-classroom use. While usage fosters independence, content covers 50 titles which include math, science, music, art, history, geography, reading, writing, and more. With something for everyone, activities will appeal to various elementary grade levels.
There are two AfterSchool Edge Stations in the Serials Department at Thomas Library and one station at Hageman Library. The AfterSchool Edge Stations are English only.
