National Disabled Pets Day: Ernie’s Story

National Disabled Pets Day: Ernie’s Story

In honor of National Disabled Pet’s Day, we wanted to share Ernie’s story. Ernie was adopted by one of our receptionists, Wendi, when he was only 2 years old. Knowing that Ernie was injured and would be in need of more help than normal, Wendi knew Ernie was put into her life for a reason. His ball joint in his hip had been crushed when Wendi rescued him, so her first step was taking him straight to Purdue for surgery.

A couple of years later when Ernie was 8 years old, he was running around playing and went to give Wendi a kiss, when she noticed his back was very tender. She immediately brought him to the vet where she was told that Ernie’s discs had compressed and that his spinal cord was compressed between the discs as well.

Ernie had lost mobility in his back end, was unable to go to the bathroom by himself, but is still one of the happiest dogs I have ever met. A couple of months ago Wendi and her fiancé purchased Ernie a wheelchair that he isn’t thrilled about yet, but he is giving it a chance!!

Just like people even when disabled, you can still experience happiness and fulfillment in your life. We just love and adore you Ernie
