Munster Shines Defensively Against Crown Point

Munster and Crown Point battled out a hard-fought game by both teams on the softball diamond Friday night. The Mustangs topped the Bulldogs 3-0 at the Crown Point girls varsity softball field. The game was close the entire time as the Mustangs scored one run in the 3rd and then added 2 more runs in the 7th to add comfort to their lead.

Emily Dato pitched a very well game, as she earned the win and a shutout against the top team in the area. Coach Beth Raspopovich from the Mustangs spoke highly of the young team but hopes for a few improvements throughout the season.

“Defensively, we didn’t make any errors and that’s a positive. However, I still believe we could be a little better defensively. We were very opportunistic on offense, and against a team like Crown Point you are not going to string together a bunch of hits” said Raspopovich.

Raspopovich believes her young team can show a plethora of improvements throughout the year.

“I hope come Sectional time we can compete against any team in our area,” Raspoppovich said.

Jordan Duff drove in 2 support runs in the top of the 7th inning to help secure the victory for the Mustangs.

“Jordan is always clutch and loves to makes hits like that for us,” added Raspopovich

The Bulldogs started the year strong and started Friday with the intention of continuing their success. Despite the hard-fought loss, the Bulldogs will persist their season with confidence.

Coach Pete Iussig of the Bulldogs hopes his team can strive for improvements the rest of the season.

“We are going to try and improve every game and every time we take the field. I want us to be playing at our peak by the postseason” said Iussig.

Coach Iussig gives credit to both team’s pitchers as they performed highly in the game. Madi Young from the Bulldogs pitched well against the powerful Mustangs, but the Bulldogs still fell up short due to key hits made at the right times by the Mustangs.

The Mustangs will be back in action on April 6th as they will travel to Mishawaka Indiana to take on the Penn Kingsmen. For more information on the Mustangs upcoming games click here.
