This award is given to one athletic trainer in the state for each level of competition--community, high school, and collegiate.

The award is given to athletic trainers that embody the profession’s highest standards, are active in advancing the profession of athletic training and sports medicine, and are well respected in the community. A graduate of Purdue university and an alumnus of Munster High School, Mary is employed both at Community Hospital and as head athletic trainer for the High School since 2015.

She has distinguished herself with her work as the supervisor of the Community Hospital Concussion Clinic and has mentored students through her role as the HOSA advisor at the High School. She also teaches Anatomy and Physiology at the Area Career Center and many of her students have gone on to pursue occupations in health fields. Her leadership in the field of athletic training spans a quarter century, and in that time she has provided top-notch care for countless athletes of all strips, helping them to get back onto the field quickly, and safely.

Mary will receive her award in front of her peers in Carmel, Indiana at the IATA business meeting and clinical symposia held on November 11th. Munster High School congratulates Ms. Spina for receiving this honor and wishes to thank her for the years of care and dedication she has exhibited on behalf of our students.
