Munster Education Foundation Awards Spring 2017 Grants

munster-education-foundationThe Munster Education Foundation Board of Directors received and reviewed grants for the Spring 2017 grant cycle for all schools within the Munster School District. Nine grants, totaling over $14,000 were approved and will be presented to the recipients at the April 10, 2017 School Board of Trustees meeting. Eads Elementary will receive funds to create a sensory room. All elementary students will benefit from a grant for storage containers for Everyday Math materials used at all elementary levels. New music pieces and storage unit will be purchased for the Elementary Orchestra Music Library and MHS percussion players will benefit from funds to purchase new marching band percussion sticks and mallets.

Also at the high school, grants will pay for special performances by the Illinois Shakespeare Festival Touring Company, a botany class greenhouse planting project, digital upgrade for the photography classes and entry fees for 13 students to enter the National Competition for Speech and Debate. Wilbur Wright Middle School will receive a grant for 24 entries to the Biomimicry Global Design Challenge. Munster Education Foundation thanks the teachers and administrators who requested these funds so that they can continue to provide innovative classroom tools and techniques as well as experiences beyond the curriculum.

Munster Education Foundation (MEF) is a group of parents, educators, business people and citizens who care about the quality of our community’s schools. Since its inception in 1992, MEF has awarded over $250,000 in grants proposed by teachers and administrators to enhance learning in Munster’s classrooms. MEF is also the administrator of the Teacher of Merit Award program, which awarded $250,000 to 165 Teachers of Merit in 2016. MEF is an independent, non-profit 501c(3) organization.
