On Thursday afternoon, the Midwest Center for Youth & Families hosted its Patriot Support Program Celebration. People from all over the Region gathered to commemorate the value of this special day.
Midwest Center for Youth & Families has been providing full immersion residential dialectical behavior therapy for youth since 1996. With over 25 years of experience treating youth who struggle with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges, the Midwest Center for Youth & Families has made it their mission to provide high-quality care to patients from across the country.
"The main modality of therapeutic intervention is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and it's really about mindfulness and critical thinking. A lot of it is also self-validation, learning how to negotiate, how not to overreact, and realize that they might have to make repairs with somebody that they wanted to beat up yesterday," said Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Dr. Douglas Jarvis.
Midwest Center for Youth & Families developed its Patriot Support Program for a chance to serve children and adolescents of members of the U.S. military and their families. This program uses a trauma-informed approach and focuses on the challenges faced by the children of military personnel, building upon the resiliency skills used to overcome challenges these youth may face in their personal and professional lives.
"A lot of kids have just have never been treated positively. This team will show them that we care," said Jarvis.
Attendees gathered with light hearts and warm smiles to partake in the refreshments and tours provided by the team members dedicated to this mission. Midwest Center for Youth & Families’ CEO, Chris Iliff, offered words of encouragement to the crowd on why this program means so much to him and the center itself.
"This day is a combination of about two years of hard work. I started this building in 2010 as a direct care staff member and have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to come back and serve in this capacity as CEO and really focus on the product, the program, the clinical delivery of excellence," said Iliff.
Dr. Douglas Jarvis also provided his expert advice on this program and the goals they plan to achieve within it.
"They're in an environment where there's always something structured to do or there are always reasonable expectations. It is the kind of stuff that they just didn't have before. I've had kids stay here for a while, and after they're complaining saying 'Wow, this is good,'" said Jarvis.
Midwest Center for Youth & Families continues to provide top-notch care to all patients throughout the Region and plans to execute that care one step further with the Patriot Support Program.
