The 32 Distinguished Graduates of the Michigan City High School Class of 2020 each received a special surprise on Friday, May 16: A school bus pulled up at their homes with a representative bearing a special gift and balloons, along with a certificate of commendation from the Michigan City Area Schools Board of Trustees. Each of the 32 students will graduate from MCHS with a GPA of 4.1 or above, in addition to numerous AP and dual college credits.
Michigan City Area Schools Board Members Deb Chubb, Marty Corley, and Theresa Edwards, along with MCAS Superintendent Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins and MCHS Principal Kevin Goralczyk visited the students. Each Distinguished Graduate selected an educator who has made a difference in their academic journey; many of these educators also took part in the visits. Five school buses were deployed for the project, to ensure social distancing.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual banquet honoring the MCHS Distinguished Graduates has been canceled. However, they and their selected teachers will be honored virtually during a recognition program on June 4 at 6:00 p.m. The program can be viewed on the Michigan City High School web site at http://educateMC.net/mchs and on cable Channel 98.
This year’s MCHS Distinguished Graduates include: Connor Baker, Aaliyah Briggs, Hannah Chambers, Dasani Cleveland, Bryanne Cushway, Dania Duenas, Devin Gasaway, Caden Glenn, Nicholas Gushrowski, Alexandria Hahn, Joshua Hensell, Brenda Huizar, Elliot Jasicki, Diamond Jimerson, Robert Lemon, Anna-Lisse Lenard, Mira McDaniel, Dante Morland, Amanda Ochoa, Sara Poulin, Alexis Reynolds, Sara Rissman, Mareeya Scully, Omar Serrano, Reece Shirley, Megan Steinhiser, Nathan Stevenson, Braden Tepper, Ryan Utpatel, Dawson Van Buskirk, Andre Williams, and Andrea Zaknoun.
