Michigan City Celebrates Class of 2013 Graduates

mchs-150Michigan City High School celebrated its 18th annual graduation commencement on Sunday, June 16th. Parents cheered as their graduates walked across the stage, hugs were exchanged, goodbyes were made and balloons and cards were given all as the Michigan City High School's class of 2013 gathered into the gymnasium one final time to celebrate their hard work and receive their much anticipated diplomas. You could feel the excitement in the air as the students, in unison, brought their tassels from right to left, ultimately symbolizing their graduation.

The Speakers at Michigan City's commencement ceremony included Mr. Kevin Goralczyk, Principle, Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, Superintendent of Michigan City Area Schools Joshua Lee Palmer, Class President and Zachary Richard Staback, Student Council President.

After graduating, Matthew Norbet-Beres shares with us his excitement about the future. "I have so many options and opportunities ahead of me. I am extremely excited to see what my future holds for me when I head off to college."

mchs-150"The class of 2013 was a pleasure to work with, they are a great group of kids and we are all wishing them the best," said Joyce Westphal, principle secretary and graduation coordinator, as she watched the graduates cross the stage to receive their diploma.

Hannah Rose Knouse nostalgically reflects on her high school career but also looks forward to the future. "I had an amazing time in high school and I will miss it. But Im very excited to move on with my life and start college. I'm ready to see what the future holds for me," she said.

mchs-130"Its a crazy thought to think that I'm may never see half of these people, that I have gotten to know so well, every again. This is all very surreal," said graduate Kaila Jean Gieser.

Graduation indeed marks the end of a very important time in everyones lives, but also brings each graduating student, now standing on the brink of their future, a chance to start anew. Although every student is going off to chase their dreams in different directions, the Michigan City Class of 2013 will always be united by the past four years they have shared together as a class.
