Members of the Merrillville High School Thespian Troupe #1692 earned accolades at the recent Thespian Nation Live conference, a virtual multi-state event.
In individual event competitions, freshman Ember Wolstenholme ranked superior in scenic design, qualifying to compete at the International Thespian Festival this summer; junior Lauren Molenda and senior Leah Mallon ranked excellent in duet acting; and senior Ambree Dawson and sophomore Daniel Dorado also ranked excellent in duet acting.
Two seniors were offered college scholarships: Jarius Taylor-Newman received more than $50,000 in scholarship offers from several schools across the country; Myia Dickerson was recognized as a Distinguished Senior and was offered a full-ride scholarship to the University of Indianapolis.
For the eighth year in a row, Merrillville will represent the state, as junior Lauren Molenda was re-elected as State Thespian Officer. She is the first MHS STO to serve two terms.
To become an officer, students go through a rigorous interview and application process. STOs represent students across the state and help plan competitions and leadership conferences. Merrillville High School has had 11 State Thespian Officers.
MHS Thespian Troupe was recognized for the third year in a row as a Gold Ranked Honor Troupe for its efforts in participation, community service and outreach.
