Merrillville Community School Corporation Announces Hire of New Principal at Henry P. Fieler Elementary School

The Board of School Trustees of the Merrillville Community School Corporation announced the hiring of Mr. Michael F. Megyesi as the new principal of Henry P. Fieler Elementary School. Mr. Megyesi will begin his new position on July 1, 2019.

Mr. Megyesi is a 1999 Merrillville High School graduate. Following high school, he attended Indiana State University on a full athletic scholarship where he received his bachelor’s degree in secondary social studies education. After graduating from Indiana State, Mr. Megyesi returned to his Merrillville roots and taught social studies at Merrillville High School from 2004 to 2007. He then became a 7th grade social studies teacher at Wilbur Wright Middle in Munster. During this time, he received his Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Ball State University in 2009. This led him to become the Dean of Students for Griffith Middle and High School, the assistant principal/athletic director for Washington Township Middle/High School, and most recently, the principal of Chesterton Middle School since 2012.

Mr. Megyesi is married to his lovely wife Lindsey, who is also a Merrillville graduate. They have 3 beautiful children in Thomas, Grayson, and Mila.

Superintendent, Nick Brown states, “I am pleased to recommend Mr. Megyesi for principal of Fieler Elementary. Mr. Megyesi brings many years of successful administrative experience with him to this position. He has very strong curriculum and instructional knowledge and also builds strong relationships with students, parents, and staff. I am excited he wants to bring his passion for students back to Merrillville School Corporation.”
