Meals on Wheels Volunteer Ambassadors of June 2018

Meals-On-Wheels-NWI-New-LogoOur volunteer ambassador for the month of June is a volunteer duo who have delivered for us for the past 8 years. Mary Lou Daniels and Frank (Bob) Paulson deliver meals to our clients in Hammond on Route 4. While Mary Lou and Frank deliver together, on occasion one or the other picks up individually. Mary Lou always calls the office as soon as the month changes in order to select the dates she would like to deliver the following month.

With our new database system it is much easier to print out the next month’s calendar and schedule to accommodate their needs. Hammond has become an area hard hit with resignations, retirements and work schedule changes. We have few substitutes to help us deliver routes, but Mary Lou and Frank pick up multiple dates for us every month. With 8 routes in Hammond we really need our ambassadors to refer new volunteers when possible.

Mary Lou has a fascinating back ground as a professional tennis player and has amazing stories to share regarding her insights of working, training, and competing against other professional female tennis players like Billie Jean King. Mary Lou retired from the Virginia Slims World Team Tennis League. She competed and won the Jr. French Open and the Jr. Wimbledon Tournament. Mary Lou also recruited another volunteer in Hammond, Don Bachmann. Don was encouraged to try volunteering, and he has been with us for over 5 years delivering meals in the Hammond community. Mary Lou and Frank, also a retiree, are both caregivers for family members, making sure their loved ones get all the care they need, and they still find the time to deliver meals regularly. We are grateful for their help every month in Hammond.
