Meals on Wheels Has Volunteer Opportunities; March Trainings Set

Meals-on-WheelsInterested and prospective volunteers are invited to attend a Volunteer Orientation and Training Session at the Meals on Wheels Community Room, 8446 Virginia Street in Merrillville. One-hour sessions will be held on Tuesday, March 11, at 10:30 a.m., and again on Thursday, March 20, at 1:30 p.m. Each session is scheduled for one hour and applicants will have an opportunity to tour the facility and ask questions about Meals on Wheels and the services we provide.

Each day, volunteers assist in the delivery of more than 1,200 meals throughout Lake County. According to Joan Vith, Volunteer Manager, volunteers are needed for all routes throughout Lake County. “However, at the moment, we are particularly in need in the Hobart, Highland, and Lake Station areas,” she said.

In addition to individuals, many area organizations and businesses participate in our corporate volunteer program. We rely on the generosity of our corporate volunteers to consistently deliver in their communities. Centier Bank is being recognized this year for their 20 years of service to Meals on Wheels. The corporate involvement in volunteering is critical in ensuring ‘”No senior goes Hungry”. I am confident additional businesses and organizations in Lake County will assist us as we reach out to the community for assistance,” said Vith.
