Meals on Wheels Has Volunteer Opportunities; April Trainings Set

Meals-on-WheelsInterested and prospective volunteers are invited to attend a Volunteer Orientation and Training Session at the Meals on Wheels Community Room, 8446 Virginia Street in Merrillville. One-hour sessions will be held on Tuesday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m., and again on Thursday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m. Each session is scheduled for one hour and applicants will have an opportunity to tour the facility and ask questions about Meals on Wheels and the services we provide.

Each day, volunteers assist in the delivery of more than 1,500 meals throughout Lake County. According to Joan Vith, Volunteer Manager, volunteers are needed for all routes throughout Lake County. “However, at the moment, we are particularly in need in the Hammond, Cedar Lake, and Lake Station areas,” she said.

“In addition to individuals, many area civic organizations also participate in our volunteer program. We rely on the generosity of our civic-minded volunteers to deliver in the communities they serve. The Rotary, Kiwanians, Service League and Chambers of Commerce are valuable to ensuring ‘”No senior goes Hungry”. I am confident additional civic groups in Lake County will assist us as we reach out to them for assistance,” said Vith.
