Mayor’s Breakfast Hosted by Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and UNCF Northwest Leadership Council set for Wednesday, February 11, 2015

city of gary sealUNCF (the United Negro College Fund), the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization, is proud to announce that Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson will once again serve as host of the Gary, Indiana UNCF Mayor’s Breakfast on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover, the 8th President of Tennessee State University, will be the keynote speaker. Mayor Freeman-Wilson will be joined as host by the UNCF Northwest Leadership Council. The event will take place at the Genesis Convention Center in Gary, IND. at 8:00 AM. The breakfast will bring together hundreds business, civic and education leaders in support of UNCF’s work to create a college ready culture that provides students with the support they need to get to and through college.

“I am so excited to once again host the Mayor’s Breakfast so that we can showcase our community’s commitment to the work UNCF is doing through its Northwest Leadership Council which directly impacts educational outcomes in our city,” said Mayor Freeman-Wilson. “We are eager to host Dr. Glover, because she well knows the importance of strengthening our historically black colleges and universities and ensuring that more African American students are graduating from college.”

Tennessee State University President Glenda Glover will as serve as guest speaker for the event. Dr. Glover is in her third year at the helm of the university, which is also her alma mater. Glover's career spans nearly three decades in executive leadership, in higher education.

"It is truly an honor to serve as guest speaker at an event of this nature that allows me to share the state of post-secondary education with those serving as education advocates," said President Glover. "UNCF and the resources it provides often play a leading role in keeping students enrolled in college. UNCF, the Northwest Indiana Leadership Council, and entities like these are needed now more than ever before as education continues to be the key to progress and change."
