karen-freeman-wilsonMayor Karen Freeman-Wilson from Gary came to visit students at Portage High School. She had received a letter from PHS senior Abby Bulatovich as part of Mrs. Wysocki’s Letter to a Politician class project. Abby had seen a documentary about Gary in Mr. Arrendondo’s class and decided to send some kind words to Freeman-Wilson about the hard work she has been doing to improve the city.

The Mayor shared the average cost of tearing down a house, $10,000, and the cost of tearing down the old Sheridan hotel, $1.7 million. She also discussed new crime fighting strategies for the city as well as plans to repurpose some of the city’s buildings. Mayor Snyder also popped in to support his friend and fellow Mayor surprising the students!
