Mayor Announces Independence Day Parade Winners

Earlier today, Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson announced the winners of the city’s 2013 Independence Day Parade. The awards ceremony took place at City Hall.First, second, and third place winners were awarded trophies for the best decorated floats, vehicles, walking units, and musical marching units. A trophy was also awarded to the best overall participant.

Parade winners are as follows:

Floats Category:
First place - City of Gary Recycling Department
Second place - The Gary Common Council
Third place - Calumet Township Trustee

Vehicle Category:
First place - Buffalo Soldiers
Second place - Classy Ladies Red Hat Society, Chapter # 6053
Third place - Power and Light Church of Gary

Walking Unit Category:
First place - Kruciial Kreatiionz (Dance Group)
Second place - Jazzy Ladies and Gents,
Third Place - Prince Hall Mason

Musical Marching Unit Category:
First place - McKinley Boys Drumline
Second place - Yes Lord Church
Third place - Power and Light Church of God.

Best Overall Winner Category:
Jazzercise YWCA (Walking Unit)

Parade winners were determined by judges, based on originality, décor, and uniformity.
