Marram-Health-Center-Employee-Spotlight-Lori-KuykendallLori Kuykendall, the community outreach specialist for Marram Health Center, grew up and still resides in Gary where she attended Theodore Roosevelt High School. Lori then continued her education at Indiana State University in Terre Haute where she earned a degree in Psychology.

Before Lori took on her position as the community outreach specialist about 3 months ago, she worked as the director of girls services for a Girl Scouts Council and then was the program director for the Young Women’s Christian Association of Northwest Indiana.

On a day-to-day basis, Lori is usually out and about getting the word out about Marram Health Center and what they do to provide help to the community.

“We will go to different organizations and agencies to let people know that Marram is here and spread the word about what services we offer to the community. We will also give information to other people that we may be able to partner with to get the word out about Marram,” said Lori.

Lori’s favorite part about working for Marram Health Center is her ability to help people.

“Meeting people and ultimately helping them when they need it.”

Marram Health Center is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the community. Marram offers services from pediatric care to adult medical services, regardless of their ability to pay. Marram Health Center is all about working together as a team with the staff, doctors, and specialists to provide the best healthcare possible.

Lori’s favorite part about working for Marram Health Center is the compassion that is put forth into helping the community.

“I’ve only been here for about 3 months, but I really like the drive and passion for trying to help Gary and our community. I love the fact that Marram Health Center focuses on those in the community who have the least amount. We have a priority of helping the low income and the homeless, and those are sometimes overlooked and forgotten people in our society. The fact that I get the chance to come out and give a special emphasis to those individuals makes me feel like I am making a difference,” stated Lori.

Lori says that being the outreach specialist for Marram Health Center really helps her put into perspective how fortunate she truly is.

Outside of her work, Lori is involved with St. Timothy’s Community Church and focuses on keeping herself healthy and fit.

“I have been trying to get myself healthy. I am going through the process of eating healthy, working out at a jazzercise class, and going to see my doctor regularly so I can be an advocate for those in the community and even for my children.”
