Luminaries Shine Bright at Meals on Wheels

mow-nwi-lumniariesIf you have driven past Meals on Wheels lately at night, located at 8446 Virginia Street in Merrillville, you likely noticed a beautiful display of the giving spirit.

This year marks the inaugural start of “Light the Night for Senior Hunger,” a year-end fundraising campaign that turns gifts of generosity into a visual display of hope for seniors in Northwest Indiana.

“One of the things I love most about the holiday season, is the overwhelming support of our community and their many gifts. I wanted to take those wonderful feelings and translate them into a tangible, visual display for all to enjoy,” said Amanda Maynard, Director of Development at Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana.

“For every year-end gift we receive until January 7th, a luminary will be placed on our Meals on Wheels property. Each day, I’m adding more luminaries to our lawn.”

Maynard also noted the different colored luminaries.

“Spectators will notice three different colored luminaries. The white luminaries are to honor all our current donors who made a year-end gift, the green luminaries are for new donors, and the red luminaries are to honor our ‘Leadership Level’ donors.”

If you would like to make a gift to Meals on Wheels, and have your own luminary shine bright, you may do so by visiting their website at www.mownwi.org and click on the “donate” button.
