Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana Hosting LUNAFEST 2021
Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana is thrilled to announce that the local nonprofit is once again hosting LUNAFEST to benefit their council. LUNAFEST is a national fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities.
This year, LUNAFEST has curated a lineup exclusively for Girls on the Run which includes four films: Knocking Down the Fences, Overexposed, Connection and Betye Saar: Taking Care of Business including a prerecorded interview with filmmaker Meg Shutzer, and pro softball player and Gold Glove winner AJ Andrews.
This event is a benefit for Girls on the Run and will take place on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Central Park in Griffith, IN. VIP reception is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., general admission ticket holders arrive at 8 p.m. and films begin at 8:15 p.m. Individual and bundle ticket packages are available, and amazing raffle baskets will be featured on the night of the event.
Girls on the Run programs are designed to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength. Lessons emphasize the important connection between physical and emotional health. At the end of the program, girls participate in a 5K, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment, setting a confident and goal-oriented mindset into motion.
“This is our 8th year hosting LUNAFEST, and this time feels extra special as we gather together in person again!” says Jill Schlueter-Kim, Executive Director. “We feel a strong connection to the mission of this film festival - to inspire women to reach their limitless potential and express themselves through their art. The films are always phenomenal, and we are honored to be able to host them here in NWI.”
All proceeds from LUNAFEST will benefit Girls on the Run as well as Chicken & Egg Pictures, a nonprofit organization that supports women nonfiction filmmakers whose artful and innovative storytelling catalyzes social change. To date, LUNAFEST has raised more than $6 Million for nonprofit organizations, featured 170 women filmmakers, and hosted over 2,500 screenings across North America.
