The Crown Point Community Library will kick off National Library Week (April 13-19, 2014) with its second annual mini golf event, “A Hole Lot of Fun,” on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The library will be transformed into an 18-hole miniature golf course for the day. The course will be set up throughout the first and second floors of the library, including a special “Family Fun Zone” in the meeting rooms that will feature free refreshments, games and more. Players of all ages will have “A Hole Lot of Fun” swinging their clubs through the library stacks!
Last year this family event was a great success! We served just under1,500 people throughout the course of the day, with over 250 golfers of all ages playing 18 holes and experiencing the library in a unique and entertaining way.
“A Family Fun Zone will be located in the library’s three meeting rooms. Light refreshments, face painting, games and other activities will be available to players at no extra charge," said Laura Clemons, Communications Specialist and event chairperson. “In addition, our community has really responded with their support to our event with some great raffle donations which will begin on March 25. Currently we have over 20 raffles including tickets to White Sox and Cubs games, passes to the Museum of Science and Industry, overnight package at the Radisson Hotel, spa treatments and more are coming in weekly.”
The cost of the event is $5 per person or $20 for a group of five. One round of golf (putters, balls, scorecards will be provided to players) and admission to the Family Fun Zone is included.
The library will be open for business during its normal Saturday hours, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. Although there will be extra activity from the golfers and their fans, library staff will make every effort to provide the usual high level of service that the community expects. Patrons needing quiet library time are encouraged to visit the library on Sunday that weekend.
Are you worried about parking? Parking is a premium downtown Crown Point and we are happy to announce the City of Crown Point Parks & Recreation will provide “Molley the Trolley” as a free shuttle service to the library from the Wheeler Middle School parking lot. Enjoy the ride around the square!
“This year we have added a fun feature to our event - our Friends of the Library is sponsoring a hole decorating contest open to the Crown Point schools”, explained Laura Clemons. “ This contest will have three winners voted by the public who play golf on the day of the event. Each winning school will receive a cash prize to purchase books for their school library: 1st Place $300, 2nd Place $200 and 3rd Place $100. The winners will be announced Monday, April 14, 2014. The month of April is also recognized as School Library Month (American Association of School Librarians). We felt this was a perfect opportunity to engage the community to support both the local library and its school libraries, especially in times of tightening budgets.” The five schools that are participating are Douglas MacArthur Elementary, Dwight Eisenhower Elementary, Solon Robinson Elementary, St. Mary Catholic and Timothy Ball Elementary. So grab your family and friends and come out to play and vote!
We would like to thank our early sponsors for their continued support. This year’s event is proudly presented by McCarroll Dental; Family Fun Zone sponsors, Friends of the Crown Point Library, McColly Realty, City of Crown Point; Eagle sponsors, Liss Carstar Collision Center, Centier Bank, Crown Town Grill, Distinctive Dental, and Janet Katich.
