Library eCards Now Available For At-Home Digital Access

Lake-County-Public-Library-Collage-09-01-15The Lake County Public Library is now offering free, at-home access to entertainment and information resources to all residents in its library district. Signing up for at home access is a fast and easy process that only requires an internet or mobile connection. Adults, teens, and children can simply go to the library's webpage (www.lcplin.org), click on the Online Application link, complete the form, and immediately receive their own library eCard barcode.

Then it's just a matter of exploring the library's website, where the various types of downloadables appear. The eCard provides access to eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, and eMusic at no cost to the user. Music downloads are permanently yours (legally and free) and can be deleted if and when you choose. The same for magazines. eBooks and eAudiobooks, however, remain on your electronic device for 2 weeks and will then automatically be returned, unless you renew that title.

In addition, databases for a huge variety of topics are available for individuals, students, business owners, teachers, parents and almost any type of user. Starting a new business? We've got you covered. Interested in your ancestry? No problem. School project? We can help. Anything you need to learn can be found in our databases. Subjects include Genealogy, Do-It-Yourself, Learn to Speak A New Language, Science, Health & Medicine, Parenting, Newspaper Articles, Hobbies & Special Interests, Sign Language, Job Resources, Student Resources, Business Resources, General Research Resources, and so much more!

Need help signing up for an eCard? Just give us a call (769-3541, Ext. 212) or use our “Ask A Librarian” button that can be found on the library's homepage, bottom left corner.

For those who already have a Lake County Public Library Card, all of this is accessible with your current full-access library card and PIN. On the other hand, the eCard does not provide access to physical materials (such as print books, dvds,or cds), but can easily be upgraded (at no cost) by stopping in to one of nine branches in the Lake County Public Library district: Cedar Lake-Hanover Township, St. John, Dyer-Schererville, Munster, Highland, Griffith- Calumet Township, Hobart, Lake Station-New Chicago, and Merrillville (Ross Township).
