Lewin Scores Twice in Purdue Calumet Loss to Robert Morris

PUC-PeregrinsSenior Caytin Lewin netted two unassisted goals on free kicks but Robert Morris University’s early lead would hold in a 4-2 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference setback to Robert Morris University Saturday.

Lewin, a defender from Plainfield, Ill. (Benet Academy/Joliet), recorded her first multi-goal game of her career, scoring first in the 18th minute on a free kick from about 30 yards out, beating the Eagles keeper high to tie the game at 1-all. She added another in the 62nd, this time off a free kick just outside the box to make it 4-2.

The Peregrines (7-8, 3-5) fell behind early in the match when Robert Morris (7-7-1, 5-2-1) capitalized off a dangerous cross from Natalie Mercier, as a Peregrine defender attempting to clear the ball caught the top of the Peregrine goal to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.

Robert Morris would get two goals from Carolyn Wieland in the 31st and 48th minute and Johanna Joenssen added another in the 35th to help the visitors seal the victory.

Lewin led the Peregrines with three of their eight shots, with Purdue Calumet recorded seven shots on goal. Robert Morris held the edge on shots (15-8) and corner kicks (2-0) in the contest.

Junior Erika Brinkman (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida/Owens C.C.) stopped six shots in the setback, while Eagles keeper Darby Bennett had five saves.

Purdue Calumet returns to action Wednesday when the Peregrines travel to St. Francis for a CCAC matchup.
