In the early hours of November 16, people lined up outside of the Food Bank of Northwest to receive free turkeys and side offerings. Partnered with the food bank, Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys arranged this Turkey Giveaway to get dinner on the table for families this upcoming Thanksgiving.
“What we’re really trying to accomplish is giving back to the communities that we serve,” said Arianna Baiz, Outreach Director for Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys. “We are also trying to inspire other businesses to do the same. We can’t do this alone, so if we come together and embrace our communities, we can truly make something wonderful happen.”
Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys have been setting up Turkey Giveaways for the last four years. This was initiated from the notion of getting involved and paying it forward to those less fortunate.
“A big part of our practice is our community involvement,” said Glen Lerner, owner of Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys. “It really engages our employees and makes them proud of their work, and honestly, people gravitate towards individuals that genuinely care about others.”
“It makes me feel good to help give back to the community,” said John Szot, a volunteer during the event. “You meet a lot of interesting and talented people who want to make a real change in this area.”
The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana has been providing critical food assistance to those in need since 1982, serving communities in both Lake and Porter counties. It has programs like BackPack and the Mobile Market that support local families and children.
“Being a part of the food bank puts things into perspective,” said Victor Garcia, Executive Director of Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. “It excites me to work with a passionate group of staff and volunteers to create transformative and generational change in this region.”
In addition to Merrillville, Lerner and Rowe Injury Attorneys is giving away turkeys and side fixings to families in Chicago, Nashville, Albuquerque, Tucson, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. In total, they are giving 9,000 turkeys to families all across the United States.
“As we’re coming up to the holiday season, we ask that you think of others who might not be as fortunate as you are. Reach out to the food bank and see how you can contribute!” said Garcia.
