Lake Central High School Baseball is on a tear this year.
After an 11-4 loss to Crown Point in mid-April, the Indians have since gone on to record nine consecutive shutouts and hold their opponents to 60 scoreless innings in a row.
And if nine consecutive shutouts and 60 innings of baseball without giving up a run seems almost unheard of, it’s because in reaching these marks during a 10-0 victory over North Ridge (Fort Wayne) on Saturday, the Indians also broke the national record for each mark in the process.
The nine consecutive shutouts broke the previous record of 8 games held by a team in Michigan, while the 60 consecutive scoreless innings mark broke an almost 30-year-old record held by Jamesville in North Carolina.
The win Saturday was also the 14th shutout of the 2016 season, breaking a school record previously held by the 2012 State Championship team. The national record for most shutouts in a season is 22.
The Indians look to continue their streak in La Porte on Tuesday.
