Your lungs are life-sustaining, moving the oxygen that fuels your body. When there is a problem with your lung health, it can have a dramatic impact on your quality of life. Pulmonary specialists such as Dr. Fadi Layous and his team at the Layous Medical Group are experts at catching and treating those conditions, allowing their patients to breathe.
Pulmonary conditions are incredibly diverse: asthma, chronic bronchitis, cancer, emphysema, allergies, and more. Layous is equipped to handle it all.
“My job is to diagnose the problem and offer the treatments to fix it,” Layous said. “Our job includes a lot from improving quality of life to sometimes even saving the lives of patients sick in the hospital.”
His practice, which is always growing, has its roots in a childhood dream.
“I wanted to be a physician from the get go,” he said. “It was always my goal. I drew the line and followed it, going through all the education including medical school. During my rotation through the different departments of internal medicine, I fell in love with pulmonary care.”
Many pulmonary conditions are long-term, even life-long. Layous understands the importance of building a strong, trust-based relationship with his patients—it is a key to getting the best possible results.
“We spend a long time with our patients, explaining everything to them so that when they leave the office, they know all about their condition and the plan to treat it,” he said. “I’ve been practicing in the area since 2004, and patients that I first treated back then are still following up with me.”
The doctor noted that Layous Medical Group is a team effort; his staff are essential to providing the convenient, compassionate service that keeps patients coming back.
“I always hear my patients compliment the staff because they go above and beyond to take care of their needs,” Layous said. “Some are dedicated specifically to answering phone calls so that we almost always have someone available to answer questions and address patient needs.”
Layous also treats sleep conditions such as insomnia and sleep apnea, a dangerous condition where breathing is repeatedly disrupted during sleep by a blocked airway, dramatically lowering oxygen levels in your blood and forcing your brain to briefly wake you and open the airway.
“Patients often aren’t diagnosed with sleep apnea until years after they develop it,” Layous said. “The symptoms that develop throughout the years are very non-specific, such as fatigue, irritability, and lack of concentration. Sleep, especially quality sleep, is very important. Sometimes people with sleep apnea have as low a quality of life as those with Parkinson’s disease. So once we treat this, a patient’s quality of life improves tremendously.”

“When I have a happy patient, I feel like I’ve won a million dollars,” he said. “A patient getting good results is what satisfies me the most. I think that’s the case for every physician, it’s our goal in life—it’s what we strive for.”
