For over a century, Larson-Danielson Construction Company has played a pivotal role in shaping Michiana’s landscape and has contributed to numerous projects that have and will leave a lasting impact on the community.

The firm’s first project in the region was the Hotel Mishawaka, built in 1909. Later, the St. Joseph Hospital of Mishawaka was completed for the Order of the Poor Handmaidens of Jesus Christ in 1918.

Today, Larson-Danielson is working on several exciting projects, including the renovation of Four Winds Field and the Raclin Murphy Encore Center.

Four Winds Field

“The Four Winds Field project involves renovations to the existing stadium, including adding a second level to the main stadium with new suites and party areas,” said Andrew Matura, Larson-Danielson project manager. “There will also be renovations to the outfield area including a new splash pad, playground, and fun zone.”

Larson-Danielson is the Construction Manager as Constructor for this two-year, $40 million project, which is expected to have a great impact on the Michiana community.

“We're thrilled about the potential for growth this project brings, even though we're still in the early stages,” said Matura. “This initiative underscores the dedication of both the City of South Bend and the South Bend Cubs organization to enhancing the community.”

Larson-Danielson is also serving as the general contractor for the Raclin Murphy Encore Center at the Morris Performing Arts Center in downtown South Bend – another key community center.

“This project will include a two-story lobby addition to the Morris Performing Arts Center,” said David Merkel, vice president of office operations, who is leading this project for Larson-Danielson. “In total, this work will add about 20,000 square feet to the Morris.”

A key part of modernizing the Morris Center, the Raclin Murphy Encore Center will expand the lobby and create a community hub for art programs.

“This project will make the experience of going to the shows at the Morris more enjoyable as it will alleviate crowding in the lobby and create some ‘Wow!’ spaces throughout,” said Merkel.

In addition to its relationship with the City of South Bend, Larson-Danielson has also formed a strong partnership with the University of Notre Dame.

Graham Family Hall

The company has undertaken several key projects for the university, including the construction of Graham Family Hall, a new men’s dormitory and the renovation of the renowned Grand Reading Room at Hesburgh Library.

“We are proud of our partnership with the University of Notre Dame and the work we have completed there,” said Darin Meyer, project manager at Larson-Danielson. “Graham Hall in particular was a huge undertaking and really showcases our expertise in building quality buildings that stand the test of time.”

Graham Family Hall opened in the Fall of 2024 and not only provides students with updated living accommodations, but also features innovative architectural elements, such as a ground-level archway that enhances campus walkability. The four-story, 79,000-square-foot residence hall houses up to 262 students and features a mix of single, double, quad, and six-person rooms, communal areas, study spaces, and a chapel.

Grand Reading Room

The Grand Reading Room renovation transformed the space into a warm, light-filled area that serves as a hub for students and faculty.

Larson-Danielson also has a strong history of park renovations in the region. In 2018, the firm completed the renovation of Howard Park in South Bend, the city’s oldest park.

One of its recent achievements is the transformation of Crawford Park in Mishawaka. The park, which underwent a complete redesign, now boasts modern amenities such as a new playground, walking paths, and community gathering areas.

The renovation has made Crawford Park a great spot for families and locals of all ages to enjoy the outdoors. By refreshing spaces like this, Larson-Danielson is helping to bring the community together and make life better for residents.

Another notable contribution to the region is the extension of the Mishawaka Riverwalk and the addition of Marvin’s Garden.

This project expanded recreational opportunities along the river, creating a scenic environment for walking, jogging, and enjoying the outdoors. The Riverwalk has become a community focal point, encouraging physical activity and social connection while enhancing the natural beauty of the area.
