The children’s department of the Dyer-Schererville Branch of the Lake County Public Library, 1001 W. Lincoln Hwy, was granted a $300 donation from the Altrusa International Inc. of the Indiana Dunes to go towards the purchase of an art supplies for a monthly school-age children's art class. The library is excited to host a monthly art class because studies have shown that art education strengthens critical thinking skills; such as observing, describing, analyzing, criticizing, and interpreting.

The next art class will be held on Tuesday, November 4 at 4:30 p.m.

Lake County Public Library Public Selects Two Poems for Consideration for the Indiana Bicentennial Commission 'Birthday Book' of Poetry
The Lake County Public Library was asked to help participate in a state-wide celebration by accepting poem submissions and selecting two to be sent to Indianapolis for submission and final judging to be published in the Indiana Bicentennial Commission 'Birthday Book' of Poetry.

Of the six poem submissions, the Lake County Public Library was able to select two to be sent to Indianapolis for consideration. The selected poets and their poems were: Kathy Homrich of Highland and her poem titled Lake County and Jacqueline Huppenthal of Dyer and her poem titled All Washed Up.

The Lake County Public Library would like to thank everyone who participated.
