Lake Central’s Urban Among Six Cited as IBCA 2014-15 Girls’ Coaches of the Year

Parker, Urban, Keck, Windlan, Holt and Moore recognized with district honors

lchs-gbb-urbanSix Indiana high school girls basketball coaches have been chosen as Bob King Coaches of the Year by their peers in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, it was announced Monday (April 6).

Rod Parker of Homestead, Marc Urban of Lake Central, Donna Keck of Noblesville, Tod Windlan of Carmel, Mark Holt of Barr-Reeve and Kevin Moore of East Central were recognized through voting that occurred from late January through late February.

Honors are awarded according to IHSAA district boundaries, and two coaches from each district are recipients -- Parker and Urban in District 1, Keck and Windlan in District 2, and Holt and Moore in District 3.

>> Parker guided Homestead to a 26-3 record, including a Class 4A state runner-up finish. He has a 216-107 record in 14 seasons with the Spartans. Parker will be head coach for the 2015 Junior All-Stars.

>> Urban directed Lake Central to a 22-4 season that included a sectional championship. He has a 57-15 mark in three seasons with the Indians. >> Keck led Noblesville to a 23-4 record and a sectional title. She has a 93-59 record in seven seasons with the Lady Millers and is 189-133 in 14 years as a head coach.

>> Windlan guided Carmel to a 17-8 season in his first season with the Greyhounds. He has an 11-year varsity coaching record of 151-103, including stops at Frankton, Anderson Highland, Delta, Hamilton Heights and Warren Central.

>> Holt directed Barr-Reeve to a 28-1 season that included a Class A state runner-up finish. He is 196-77 in 12 seasons with the Vikings and has been named 2015 Indiana All-Star head coach.

>> Moore guided East Central to a 21-4 season that included the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference championship. He is 88-41 in six seasons with the Trojans. He will be a Junior All-Star assistant coach this year.

All six coaches will receive plaques as a 2014-15 IBCA District Coach of the Year at the 2015 IBCA Clinic on April 24-25 at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.

Marc Urban, Lake Central
Marc Urban recently completed his third season as varsity girls’ basketball coach at Lake Central, where his Indians went 22-4 while winning the Duneland Conference championship at 7-0 and capturing the Class 4A Sectional 1 title.

In three seasons, Urban’s teams have amassed a 57-15 record with two sectional crowns (2013 and 2015).

Urban is a 2001 graduate of Lake Central, where he played basketball and football. He matriculated to Indiana State. At ISU, he served as a men’s basketball manager for Royce Waltman and graduated in 2006.

Upon graduation, Urban returned to Lake Central, working as a boys’ basketball assistant coach for six years for Dave Milausnic, helping the boys to conference and sectional titles in 2012. The coach then moved to the Lake Central girls’ program, guiding the team to 16-8 and 19-3 records in his first two seasons.

Urban and his wife, Traci, have one daughter, Grace (2), and are expecting another daughter in June.
