Lake Area United Way and FamilyWize Announce Savings of Over $2,000,000 in Everyday Prescription Costs for Local Residents

Since 2010, Lake County residents have saved more than $2,000,000 on everyday prescription costs, thanks to the partnership between Lake Area United Way and FamilyWize. The free FamilyWize drug savings card is distributed locally by Lake Area United Way. “No one should be forced to choose between paying for food, rent or medicine because of the high cost of prescriptions. That’s why we’ve partnered with FamilyWize to distribute free prescription savings cards to everyone in Lake County.”, said Dave Koester, Board Member and Chair Lake Area United Way’s Allocations Committee. “Our work here is not done,” Koester adds, “While over 95,000 claims have been processed by area residents since the program’s inception, there are still over 105,000 people uninsured and approximately 56,680 underinsured that may need help with prescription savings.”

Distributed through United Ways nationwide, the FamilyWize card lowers the cost of medicine by an average of 40% or more for people without insurance or who take medications not covered by their plan. It’s easy. You can keep using your card every time you need to fill a prescription. All you have to do is present a FamilyWize card at a local pharmacy to receive the savings.

“The FamilyWize card provides immediate savings on prescription medicines with no paperwork or forms to fill out,” said Susan Gilmore, Executive Director of Community Engagement for The FamilyWize Community Service Partnership.

The FamilyWize card is for everyone without insurance or for medicines not covered by insurance.

The FamilyWize card is easy to use:

  • The card is free
  • For immediate and unlimited use
  • Anyone can use the FamilyWize card
  • No registration or activation required
