This Saturday, the Hobart High School Brickies Softball Team hosted the La Porte High School Slicers in their first game of the season. The Slicers started off the day strong, racking up three runs by the end of the second inning. The Slicers held the Brickies at zero runs until the bottom of the fifth when a hit by #4 Lindsey Schallenkamp led the first run for the Brickies.
At the top of the sixth, #17 Grace Arnett for the Slicers got the first and only home run of the game. The Slicers secured the win with a final score of 5-1, totaling six hits to Hobart’s two.
Head Coach of the Slicers Ryan Sosinski commented on his feelings on being back on the field and the team’s win after the events of COVID-19.
“It’s awesome to be out again,” Sosinski said. “It was tough not having a season last year, so it’s nice to be back out here again. After the year we had, this is what people need.”
Sosinksi also discussed how Hobart is an undoubtedly strong team, but the Slicers came out and played their best game in the end.
“I’m very happy about the win,” he continued. “This is a really good team, they had a very good performance earlier this week, but we played well today.”
