Kindergartner makes a huge difference with her giving heart

Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes.

When 5-year-old Solon Robinson Elementary kindergartener Stephanie Arcella heard Hospice of the Calumet Area was raising money for their Honoring Legacies: A Capital Campaign for William J. Riley Memorial Residence, she wanted to help. Her “Busia” has worked as a CNA there for the past 19 years and she is proud to have her work at such a “special place.”

On the 4th of July, Stephanie decided to create a lemonade and popcorn stand and give the proceeds to HCA.

“I love Busia and wanted to help her at her work, said Stephanie. “It was a lot of fun.”

Stephanie raised nearly $500, which was instantly doubled, thanks to an anonymous donor.

“We are continually humbled and inspired by the generosity of our donors, especially those so young,” said Joan McInerney, HCA development director.

Laura Arcella has spent nearly two decades at Hospice of the Calumet Area and is a compassionate and fun personality that can be seen taking care of patients at "The Riley House."

"Laura is wonderful," said Damian Rico, HCA marketing and community relations director. "She always has some words of encouragement or a funny one-liner to brighten up your day. We are so absolutely lucky to have her helping patients and families during some very vulnerable times."
