Kevin Nuppnau Awarded Exceptional Young Professional by IPRA

Valparaiso Parks Director Kevin Nuppnau has been awarded the Exceptional Young Professional Award  by the Indiana Park & Recreation Association. The award is presented to a professional 35 years old or  younger who exhibits initiative, innovation and contributions to the park and recreation field.  

“We congratulate Kevin on this latest and well-deserved recognition. Kevin does an extraordinary job in  elevating our Valpo Parks and serving a variety of ages, abilities and interests through facilities and  programming,” said Mayor Matt Murphy. “Kevin leads by example, inspiring his talented team and  encouraging all who enjoy Valpo Parks.”  

Kevin Nuppnau is a lifelong Valparaiso resident who began his career at the Valpo Parks Department  in 2018 as the Business Operations Director, becoming Assistant Director in 2021. He was recently  named Director for Valpo Parks. Over the past years, Nuppnau has taken on leadership for key projects,  including Creekside Trails, Flounder & Friends Skatepark and the development of Valpo for All  Generations which includes expanding Parks offerings as well as enhancing legacy parks – for all ages  and abilities.  

In addition to leading Valpo Parks, Nuppnau is active in other community organizations, such as PALS  (Professionals Advancing Local Success) which partners with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater  Northwest Indiana. He also serves on the board of the Valparaiso Community Schools Foundation and  was recently recognized by The Times of Northwest Indiana as one of “20 Under 40” for his  accomplishments and leadership.
