Located about 60 miles east of Chicago, Kankakee Valley REMC is a not-for-profit energy cooperative delivering electricity to 18,000 northern Indiana families, farms, schools and businesses. Based in Wanatah, we serve rural areas of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph and Starke counties. Kankakee Valley REMC is seeking a Marketing Coordinator who will be responsible for planning, preparing and executing marketing and member-service programs, while ensuring the superior image of the cooperative is maintained and the needs of the member-consumers are continuously being met.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Assist in updating the website and social media outlets; measure and analyze website metric tracking.
  • Collaborate in developing and producing content for cooperative magazine and website.
  • Coordinate and manage youth programs. This includes regular visits to schools to provide education and understanding of the programs to students and school representatives.
  • Help promote and coordinate safety and efficiency programs for member-consumers, employees and the community.
  • Assist in the coordination of community outreach to provide volunteer outlets to further the objectives of the cooperative.
  • Managing the Power Moves program at the cooperative level.
  • Photograph cooperative events, employees, community events for use in the cooperative magazine and social media. Maintain the cooperative photo libraries.
  • Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications, along with other departments concerning promotions, campaigns and advertising efforts. This includes developing messaging and talking points to encourage member-consumer participation and to communicate the corporate objectives to the employees and membership.
  • When needed, assist with providing outreach to key accounts to make sure their needs are being met.
  • Responsible for promoting and representing a positive image for the cooperative through community events. 
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Communications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to motivate others, maintain confidentiality, and strong listening skills.
  • Understanding of software programs including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Joomla, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, CorelDraw and Illustrator.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage tasks and time effectively
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and member-consumers in a professional manner.
  • High level of grammar, spelling and proofreading capability
  • Occasional overnight travel will be required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or Communications and a minimum of 3-5 years of job-related experience required.
