Kankakee Valley REMC and CoBank Sharing Success gifts $10,000 to United Way of Northwest Indiana

Kankakee Valley REMC and CoBank Sharing Success gifts $10,000 to support United Way Backpacks United.

In 2020, Backpacks United was developed in response to COVID and food scarcity needs for children who lacked access to food at home. This is Kankakee Valley REMC’s second year supporting the program.

“Kankakee Valley REMC’s core job is keeping the lights on, but our passion is serving our membership and the community. As a co-op, our purpose is to serve the long-term interests of our community.” stated Scott Sears, CEO of Kankakee Valley REMC. “We do this best when we partner with organizations, like United Way of Northwest Indiana, who share our focus and mission.”

United Way of Northwest Indiana’s goal is to create positive, lasting change by helping stabilize resident in need to make Northwest Indiana stronger. In a single year, more than 22% of Northwest Indiana households are supported by United Way.
