Kahler Middle School Students Learn Jujutsu

Kahler-Middle-School-Students-Learn-JujutsuFifth-graders Drew and Devyn Moore are two twin sisters that attend Kahler Middle School in Dyer, Indiana. Aside from school, they both also do Jujutsu at the Corral’s Martial Arts In St. John, IN.

“We’ve been doing this for almost two years, and the place [we go to] is really good, ” Drew and Devyn Moore (5) said.

The girls have a schedule different from a typical fifth grade student. They practice four times a week, and compete one to two times a month. To have a productive practice, warm-up is crucial for the Moore sisters.

“Warm up consist[s] of push ups, bear crawls, forward and backward rolls and running laps. They also practice their [current] moves and learn new moves for competitions,” Mrs. Brenda Moore said.

The Moore sisters have had much success in the two years that they have been at Corral’s Martial Arts, receiving first, second and third medals. Devyn also made the Kahler wrestling team.

Devyn enjoys the physical activity, and all the experiences that come along with it.

“I like the seminars, tournaments, and choking people,” Devyn said.

Drew chimes in with her own opinion. Her favorite part involves the people within the activity.

“I’m friends with all the people in my age group. I like submissions, and grappling with them,” Drew said.

Their mother agrees that since being involved in Jujutsu, there has been a positive difference in their personalities.

“They have gained confidence, self-discipline and self defense,” Mrs. Moore said.
