Join the Town of Porter for a Fun Filled August

Town-of-PorterAugust is going to be a hot month for events at Porter’s Hawthorne Park! The Chesterton Art Center’s annual Art Fair starts the month off right on August 2 and 3. Just two short weeks later, on Friday August 15, the Porter Park Department will have a free outdoor showing of the 90s classic “The Sandlot” under the stars at the Hawthorne Park baseball field. The 1993 coming-of-age film tells the story of a group of young baseball players, a ball signed by Babe Ruth, and a beastly neighborhood legend during the summer of 1962. Rated PG. The show starts at 8 p.m. and there will be free popcorn for all attendees!

Thanks to a new partnership between the Town of Porter Parks Department and the Porter County Parks and Recreation Department there will be three new programs during the last two weeks of August for area residents to enjoy. On Friday, August 22 from 6-8 p.m., join an instructor at the Community Center in Hawthorne Park to learn about essential oils and how to use them. Registration fee of $30. Cost of the program includes making some products to take home.

If painting is more your style, then you will have two opportunities during the last week in August to tap into your creative side. On Wednesday, August 27, from 3-5 p.m. there will be an Acrylic Painting class at the Community Center in Hawthorne Park. All skill levels ages 16 and older are welcome to attend. The cost to participate is $10, which includes supplies and two hours of instruction from an experienced instructor.

Unable to make the Wednesday afternoon class? Then grab a group of friends and join us for Coffee and Canvas on Friday, August 29 from 6-9 p.m. at the Community Center in Hawthorne Park. This fun guided class works through a painting project targeted at all skill levels while enjoying some gourmet coffee and treats as you work! At the end of the class all participants get to take home their finished project to show off. The cost to participate is $25, which includes all supplies and three hours of instruction from an experienced instructor.

You can register online for any of the three classes mentioned above by visiting www.portercountyparks.org (credit card), or by calling Becky at 219-734-0203 – cash or check also accepted on the day of the class.
