Indiana University Northwest’s Center for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE) continues to expand its online presence to offer non-credit programs throughout the year, which aim to assist people of all ages gain skills and enrich their lives as we face today’s challenges and prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities.

CURE offers a variety of remote learning opportunities for all ages through its Adult Education, Reading Skills, and Senior University programs.

Adult Education: Fundamental Courses

24/7 Access; All classes start new every month

Online fundamental courses are informative, fun, and convenient. Fundamental courses include both instructor-led courses and self-paced tutorials. Instructor-led courses run for six weeks with monthly start dates and feature an instructor-moderated discussion board so that you can interact with your classmates. Self-paced tutorials are designed for completely independent learning, without instructor moderation, and can be started at any time. Programs for students of all ages: children and adults

Offered in partnership with the Institute of Reading Development, programs are specifically designed to give students the skills, motivation, and individual support they need in the fall, winter, spring, and summer of each grade level. Students attend a dynamic, live online class each week, during which they can see, hear and speak with each other and their teacher in real time. Every class is full of engaging discussions and class activities. Between classes, students complete independent reading assignments and interactive online lessons that build skills and confidence. Senior University: Computers for Seniors II: Microsoft Word

If you are ready to move beyond the basics of computer use, then this online, self-paced tutorial is for you. Learn at your own pace by watching and/or re-watching these video tutorials created by veteran instructor, Chelsea Whittington. The tutorial will cover how to navigate Microsoft Word, learning various terms and functions. Senior University: Caregiving in the Era of COVID-19

Are you 55 years of age or older and caring for an older adult? Do you at times feel stressed and overwhelmed by your caregiving responsibilities? More than 34.2 million people in the United States are caring for someone over the age of 50 (National Alliance for Caregiving, 2015). COVID-19 has added additional challenges for caregivers. So more than any other time, conversations about caring for older loves ones is important. This live, online workshop will provide information about the various types of caregiving, including available support and resources for people taking care of older adults during the pandemic.
