Indiana University Northwest (IU Northwest) has two art galleries in which they plan to use to educate the university and Northwest Indiana communities on contemporary and historical arts.

“The mission of the School of the Arts galleries is to present innovative exhibitions programming that complements and enhances the University's academic offerings. We aim to exhibit art collections for study and research,” said IU Northwest's website. “We hope to educate the university community as well as the general public from Northwest Indiana about the forms and issues of contemporary and historical art from all cultures. We want to fill a unique niche in the region as a venue for rigorous and engaging cultural programming.”

"MATERIAL PERSPECTIVES" Exhibit by Wang, Tompkins, Neuland Thomas, and Envision Unlimited

Right now, IU Northwest is currently running two galleries. The first gallery, named “MATERIAL PERSPECTIVES,” features textile artists such as Hope Wang, Cassie Tompkins, Envision Unlimited, and Monika Neuland Thomas. This gallery is located in the Arts & Sciences building just off the Performing Arts Main Stage lobby. The gallery will be shown until January 21, 2022. This exhibit is open to the public Monday-Thursday from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m., and masks are required.

IUN REVERB
"REVERB" Exhibit by Fogelson

IU Northwest is also showing “REVERB” featuring Doug Fogelson. “REVERB” displays both a photography exhibition and sound performance. This gallery is also showing through January 21, 2022, located in the School of the Arts Gallery, Arts & Sciences 2nd floor. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 12-5 p.m.

There are some upcoming galleries as well, including Black History Month Exhibitions, School of the Arts BFA Thesis Exhibitions, and the Annual High School Student Exhibition at the School of the Arts. For more information on these upcoming galleries, you can check IU Northwest’s Facebook or Instagram.

“The School of the Arts at IU Northwest welcomes submissions of artists' work or curatorial proposals for either solo or group exhibitions that activate traditional and non-traditional exhibition and performance spaces on campus,”  said IU Northwest's website. “Much of our programming and presentations are focused on contemporary work with bold points of view. We are interested in highlighting work that empowers and informs by engaging and fostering exploration and curiosity, as well as work that elevates voices and perspectives. We encourage submissions to propose risk-taking, experimental, or boundary-crossing work that extends the concept, scale, or scope of your practice.”

IU Northwest is openly taking submissions from students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community.

“Any artist, curator, current student, faculty member, staff, or community member can submit work or ideas for an exhibition; however, submission does not constitute acceptance. Submissions are received on a rolling basis and reviewed by the School of the Arts Exhibitions Committee, consisting of Fine Arts Department faculty and the Dean of the School of the Arts,” said IU Northwest's website.
