IHSPA names the Excalibur Yearbook, Inklings Newsmagazine and Crown Town Media Website as Hoosier Star Finalists

The Indiana High School Press Association celebrated its 100th convention by asking student journalists “WHAT’S NEXT?” at the 2024 state convention on the Franklin College campus Friday, Jan. 26.

In addition to its mission to support scholastic media across the Hoosier state, the event focused on the theme “WHAT’S NEXT?” and the significance of developing well-rounded journalists skilled in all aspects of journalism and communication as this field continues to evolve.

Over 500 students registered from across the state, and the day featured a keynote presentation with broadcast legend Carole Simpson which was moderated by ABC news anchor and best-selling author Linsey Davis.

Crown Point High School Inklings Editor-in-Chief Hayden Kay said, “It feels amazing that Inklings’ small staff has been recognized. We have changed the format of the publication and balanced writing for both print and Crown Town Media website. I am so proud of the staff for putting in their all because winning state confirms how much their writing matters,” Kay said. “Converging our media went from just being an idea, to being an incredible opportunity for students to share their journalistic excellence on a website platform. To win an award in the first full year of the website’s launch truly shows how hard our staffers work to share the stories of our school at top-notch quality.”

The IHSPA named the Excalibur Yearbook, Inklings Newsmagazine and Crown Town Media Website as Hoosier Star Finalists.

The IHSPA Hoosier Star winners include Inklings Newsmagazine and the newly converged Crown Town Media website which includes content from all CPHS publication staff. This is the top holistic award for scholastic journalism in the state of Indiana.
