“I Wanna Go Home” Pet Adoption Briefs: April 2014

i-wanna-go-home-01I Wanna Go Home Rescue is at Petco in Highland every Saturday from 11 am to 3pm. They bring a few of the dogs they have for adoption and hang out all day trying to find them a home. For those who cannot adopt, but would like to help, I Wanna Go Home rescue can be found collecting donations at Alsip Nursery in Saint John every first Sunday of the month and occasionally at the Jewel Osco in Dyer. Occasionally, they will bring along some of the animals who need homes or some of the dogs who have found homes through I Wanna Go Home Rescue.

A Home for Baby Baby is two years old. She is half Miniature Pinscher and half Dachshund. She was surrendered by her owner because her owner just could not take care of a dog. She found a foster home but her new foster home also could not take care of her and Baby was brought back to I Wanna Go Home Rescue Saturday. Baby was understandably frightened. She could not stop shaking and she was so scared, she would not bark at anything. Baby had been uprooted twice in one month and is very unsure of her surroundings. That was until Deborah and Billy Delph walked into the Highland Petco. They saw Baby and immediately wanted to adopt her.

“We love animals,” Mr. Delph said. “We are just animal lovers.”

They have a Chihuahua named Oreo and three cats. As if baby already knew that she was going to a good home, she stopped shaking and was ready to go home.

Two of a Kind
Johnathan Karahalios has wanted a puppy forever. His mom, however, was never really on board with it. She had bad experiences with dogs, but he had been begging forever. Then along came Bruiser.

Bruiser, now McCoy, is a puppy who found a home through I Wanna Go Home Rescue. Emily Hudec, Johnathan’s girlfriend, was at the Highland Petco shopping with her family when she first saw Bruiser. Emily had looked around at breeders and at the humane society but never really found anything in her price range or that she liked when she saw it. Emily fell in love with Bruiser instantly and knowing Johnathan’s birthday was near bought him on the spot. She cleverly called Johnathan and asked him to run errands starting with a run to Petco not mentioning the family’s newest member. Emily and Johnathan walked in and Johnathan immediately started petting and playing with Bruiser.

i-wanna-go-home-03“Isn’t he adorable?” Emily asked.

“He definitely is,” said Johnathan

“He’s yours,” replied Emily.

Johnathan’s parents had been in on it. Emily had prearranged the purchase with his family. His dad was always on his side, but his mom was always against it. She didn’t think she had the time. His dad was immediately on board when Emily asked if she could adopt Bruiser, but his mom took some convincing. She was glad she changed her mind.

Johnathan’s mom is in love with McCoy. She can’t get enough of him. She misses him all the time and just wants to spend time with him. She had a complete change of heart.

“It has been awesome. He’s super good about everything,” said Johnathan.

Bruiser was renamed McCoy and his happy in his new home. He chews on everything and has a few accidents in the house but he’s super sociable with people and with other dogs. It is hard to tell which life has been more impacted by this special day. Johnathan’s or McCoy’s.

“We go everywhere together. He’s my little companion.” said Johnathan.

About I Wanna Go Home Rescue
I Wanna Go Home Rescue is are a group of dedicated volunteers engaged in No-kill rescue of animals. They are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit and are active in Indiana and Illinois. Their mission is to help animals and to offer care and a peaceful living environment for all animals in need of a safe and loving home. All of their animals are in loving and caring foster homes until the right “Forever Home” comes his or her way. They are provided with an enormous amount of love and any medical attention that may be required to insure that they are in good health before adoption. They are all spayed or neutered and brought up-to-date on shots before being placed in their new homes. When time permits, our dogs are also house-trained and taught basic obedience.

I Wanna Go Home Rescue's dogs and cats are evaluated for temperament and personality. This helps us to place them in homes that are well suited to their needs and to the needs of their future owners. They also work closely with other rescue groups and animal shelters.
