Humane Society Calumet Area (HSCA) will host an adoption event Saturday, July 26 with adoption fees waived for families with children in scout troops and scout troop leaders as part of the 2014 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge.
The adoption event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the shelter located at 421 45th St, Munster, Ind.
In addition, the Hammond Police Department will be offering their Kid Fingerprinting ID program at the shelter from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All adoptions require an approved application and all standard adoption procedures apply. The animal does not have to go home at time of application but an application must be submitted the day of the event. Puppies and some kittens are excluded and additional fees—including a $25 rabies vaccination fee—may apply.
Upcoming adoption events take place August 2 with adoption fees waived for EMTs and lifeguards and August 9 through 10 with adoption fees waived for the public, pending a qualifying application.
The 2014 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters (and their communities) aimed at getting more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before. As a contestant in the challenge, HSCA is competing for a chance at more than $600,000 in grant funding, including a grand prize of $100,000.
For the challenge, HSCA chose the theme of “Rescue Me.” Throughout the summer at the shelter, HSCA will offer Save Me Saturdays with reduced adoption fees for a special group—including police officers, firefighters, EMTS, doctors, nurses and more—during each event.
The shelter also will host two Empty the Shelter weekends—August 9 through 10 and August 30 through 31—with adoption fees waived for qualifying applications.
