ASPCA-Grant-LogoHumane Society Calumet Area in Munster, IN today announced that they are one of several animal rescue organizations receiving grant funding to participate in the 2013 ASPCA ‘Mega Match-a-thon’ event, which will take place October 18, 19, and 20 at the new PAWS Resale Shoppe on Kennedy Avenue in Highland. The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is granting funds to support large-scale adoption events held simultaneously nationwide in an effort to save more lives of shelter animals.

Humane Society Calumet Area is working with several local shelters and rescue groups including South Suburban Humane Society, Porter County Animal Shelter, Lakeshore Paws, Treasured Friends Rescue, and animal control agencies from Whiting, East Chicago, Highland, Munster, and Gary. Grant funding supplies spay/neuter surgeries, collars, and leashes for all animals from participating agencies. The goal is to adopt at least 200 animals to loving homes at the event.

The ASPCA Mega Match-a-thon is a great motivator for our staff and for the members of our community to help the many wonderful cats and dogs in our shelter find loving homes,” said Rachel Delaney, Executive Director of the Humane Society Calumet Area. “Working together with other shelters and rescues, we can save thousands of animals and enrich the lives of new adopting families.
