Howard T. “Pops” Wikoren, 94 of La Porte, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 at home.
He was born January 8, 1927 in Joice, Iowa to Julius and Bertha Eldora (Woods) Wikoren. In April of 1962 he married LeDean Buchanan who passed away February 3, 1997. Howard is survived by his daughters Jelaine (Pete) Horton of Wisconsin, JoElyn Mick of North Carolina, Janna (Donald) Price of La Porte, his sons Geary (Rebecca) Buchanan of Ft. Wayne, William Buchanan of La Porte, and Kim (Janice) Buchanan of Union Mills, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, his sisters Jelaine Nesset of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Dolores Madson of Missouri, Alice Anderson of New Alma, Minnesota, and Betty Erickson of Cypress, California. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother, and one grandson.
Howard was an operating engineer working construction with Local 150 and was a truck driver for many years. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Westville United Methodist Church. Other memberships include the O.E.S., Westville Masonic Lodge, Westville Lions Club, Westville American Legion Post #21, the Falcons the LaPorte V.F.W. and former member of the Michigan City Moose and the Eagles Lodge in Minnesota.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 21st at Newhard Funeral Home, 58 W. Walnut St. in Westville, Pastor Toby Guill and Howard’s daughter-in-law Janice Buchanan will officiate. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave. Chicago, IL 60707.
