For the past five years, the masquerade ball and auction has been a night of fun to fundraise for the homeless of Porter County. Lakeside Wealth Management came alongside Housing Opportunities (H.O.) to put together the gala for the community and local businesses alike. The event was held at Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa and included a silent auction, dancing, dinner, drinks, and live hula hooping.
Jenn Brown, Corporate Communications Manager at Lakeside Wealth Management, sits on the committee for the masquerade ball and has supported Housing Opportunities since she began at the company five years ago. In love with the mission of H.O., Brown is excited to be a part of this event every year.
“This is the best way for Housing Opportunities to get their name out there, tonight is really about being able to fundraise but also give our supporters their appreciation back to them,” Brown said. “The whole idea of housing opportunities is to help these people get back on their feet, that’s why we get involved and that’s why we stay involved.”
Not only does Brown love the Housing Opportunities mission, but she recognizes the importance of it. The homeless community in Porter County can go unnoticed so Brown realizes the importance of partnering with organizations to raise awareness.
“When you think about homelessness you think about downtown Chicago and how they’re all out on the streets and you can tell,” said Brown. “But homelessness in Porter County is all about people living in their cars and it’s totally different.”
While the gala included many of the major sponsors behind Housing Opportunities, a good portion of the room was simply people from the community. Housing Opportunities Director of Development, Lisa Franko, is incredibly thankful to Lakeside for being a big reason they’re able to put on this event every year.
“Lakeside has been an incredible sponsor for our organization,” Franko said. “We could not do the work that we do without the amazing sponsorship and partnership that we have from Lakeside Wealth Management.”
Jordan Stanfill, CEO of Housing Opportunities, says it’s all about raising awareness for the homeless community and affordable housing opportunities, but is also incredibly thankful to both Lakeside Wealth Management and Blue Chip Casino for their partnership and being able to have this event.
“Lakeside Wealth Management is probably the best organization we can partner because they do so much for all non-profits in Porter County,” Stanfill said. “They are the gracious presenting sponsor for us and we’re incredibly grateful for them.”
The silent auction included sports tickets, sports memorabilia, jewelry, a mystery basket, and several other gift baskets donated by local businesses. Attendees Scott and Abby Vanloon attended on behalf of Langley Construction and have come to the gala for the silent auction and fun every year.
“I enjoy coming here every year and we enjoy the atmosphere,” Vanloon said. “Hearing stories and talking to everyone from H.O. is really inspiring.”
Tickets for the masquerade ball and auction typically go on sale in July, so be sure to get your tickets next year because it’s going to be a blast.
