Hobart’s Ethan Ferba dives into the NCC Diving Championship title

Hobart’s Ethan Ferba dives into the NCC Diving Championship title

The Northwest Crossroads Conference (NCC) Diving Championship was held today at the Hobart High School Natatorium. It was exciting for those in attendance as divers performed aerial twists of feat before entering the water. Diving excites winner Ethan Ferba of Hobart, who is now the 2021 NCC Diving Champion.

“I really enjoy the flipping. It’s a rush, every dive is a rush of adrenalin,” said Ferba.

Ferba, a junior in high school, has been diving for three years.

“At first I was trying swimming, but that definitely didn’t work out,” said Ferba. “I kept cramping. So when they had a call-out for diving, I gave it a try.”

It is clear Ferba has done more than try. Finishing 122.85 points ahead of the second place diver, Ferba finds himself motivated by the other divers around him.

“The other competitors motivate me. The person that is probably going to win state this year is really good, and I just really want to win state as well.”

When he is on the diving board, Ferba is all focus. Even when performing his favorite dive, the inward two-and-a-half.

“I try not to think of anything else. I am trying to be confident. I just tell myself, ‘I’ve got this. I’ve done this dive multiple times in practice and this is no different,’” Ferba said.

Results for the divers included Ethan Ferba of Hobart with 433.90 points, Declan Taylor of Munster with 311.05, Hayden Maggio of Hobart with 306.70, Logan Opilka of Highland with 283.40, Ethan Robles of Hobart with 275.30, and William Krull of Highland with 187.00. Congratulations to all!
