Hewitt Family shows great commitment to Hospice of the Calumet Area

Not only does the Hewitt Family know how to throw a great party, but they also know how to celebrate the legacy of their father and the work of HCA and the American Brain Tumor Association.

The Jim Hewitt Good Friday Bowl fundraiser was started 18 years ago at Lan Oaks Lanes in Lansing, IL, to benefit two local non-profit organizations. The event is a fun-filled evening of bowling, music, prizes and fun for the entire family that has raised over $95,000 in the last 16 years.

“Hospice of the Calumet Area took such good care of my husband and I’ll never forget their kindness,” said Serena Hewitt. “It is such an honor to have my wonderful family take our annual tradition that my husband started years ago and turn it into an inspiring fundraiser to help countless others.”

Serena Hewitt is quick to point out that her husband Jim was only in HCA’s care for less than 48 hours but in that time her family was greatly impacted by the compassion they received.

“When we found out Jim had a brain tumor, things turned upside down quickly for us,” said Serena. “Our family was truly touched and believes in the dignity [Hospice of the Calumet Area] provides to their patients and families.”
