Help a Brickie Out

balashIf you live in Hobart chances are you either know or have heard of Coach Steve Balash. For over 42 years he has been a part of the Hobart Brickie coaching staff. You may have heard his name in connection with the Hobart wrestlers, maybe it was with the track team or yet again it may have been associated with the football team. But I am sure you have heard it somewhere, sometime!

At age 64, Coach Balash is in his own competition. He is fighting to get his life back. The trouble he is having is the fact that doctors are unable to reveal just what it is he is battling. Doctors have been unable to determine his enemy after an array of blood tests, scans, x-rays, spinal taps, etc. Doctors are still trying to hunt his foe down. While he is going through these tests, he has become weaker and not knowing what he is battling is playing with his head as well. He is trying to keep active, yet he was unable to continue his coaching as well as teaching summer school. Mounting medical bills are also becoming another factor in this battle he is in.

It is at this point in his battle that he gains the help of the good old Brickie Family. After all, "Once a Brickie, Always a Brickie", so Don Rogers has helped organize a car wash day. This Saturday the 26th, you can go to one of three locations: Hobart High School, Joan Martin Elementary School or Mundell Field and have your car washed by a good old Brickie as well! Players, parents, etc. from various teams are donating their time and supplies to help come out and wash cars on behalf of Coach Balash. If your car isn't dirty, you can still stop by and make a contribution. Don't forget! Car washes are this Saturday, July 26 from noon until 4:00 pm.
